RATA is a collaboration between 9 Waikato councils, with the support of the NZ Transport Agency. It was established in July 2014, and has developed under the strong leadership of the Waikato Mayoral Forum. The activity transferred into WLASS on 1 July 2016.
The vision for RATA is:
By 2020, RATA will evolve from its current focus on data and evidence for asset management, to a local government trusted partner to deliver roading asset management services to the Waikato Region.
The RATA business unit is located within Waipa District Council, and employs three full-time staff and a part-time administrator. The current focus is on collecting timely, consistent data sets for asset management, establishing a regional pavement deterioration model to develop forward works programmes, and supporting councils to implement the ONRC.
Regional forward works programme tours are held annually to assist councils to assess the right treatments at the right time.
